Mayor asks residents to conserve water

Fellow Port Orford residents, given drought conditions, low stream flows, and diminished storage capacity, our city’s drinking water supply reservoir has been dropping to mandatory conservation levels that could soon trigger a water shortage emergency.

We are asking everyone to PLEASE CONSERVE WATER.

Please refrain from non-essential water uses, such as:

  • washing cars, bikes, boats, (except for commercial fishing vessels), except at a commercial washing facility;
  • washing down or pressure washing of sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, buildings or other structures;
  • using water for decorative fountains or to fill or refill any indoor or outdoor swimming pools or jacuzzis (there are a couple of health and safety exceptions to that);
  • flushing gutters or drains
  • watering lawns, shrubs or any landscaping vegetation, aside from vegetable gardens.

Bulk water sales are also discontinued at this time.

Thanks for your help in conserving our drinking water supply.

The City of Port Orford Water Department, in conjunction with the State Health Department, has officially lifted the Boil Water Advisory for all affected customers.

Water quality testing and laboratory analysis have confirmed that the water supply meets all safe drinking water standards.

What affected residents should do now:
    • Flush lines: Run your cold water faucets for 3–5 minutes to clear your household plumbing.
    • Ice makers: Discard any ice made during the advisory and flush 2–3 batches of new ice.
    • Water filters: Replace any inline or refrigerator water filters if recommended by the manufacturer.

BOIL WATER NOTICE – Effective 09/30/2026

Public Works has repaired a 4-inch water main break on Oregon Street near 7th Street Right-of-Way and restored services. Boil water notices have been hand-delivered to all impacted customers in the affected areas:

East side of Oregon Street, between 5th Street and the 7th Street Right-of-Way (as highlighted on the attached map).

We expect water testing results by October 5, 2026. A second door hanger will be delivered to all impacted customers once the boil water notice has been lifted.
